A Confident Heart by Renee Swope – Book Review and Giveaway!

I have typically shied away from Christian women’s books.  I’m not entirely sure why, but for some reason I thought they would be cheesy or just be too much about stereotypical women’s needs, and I needed something deeper.  For whatever reason, I have never really been drawn to a Christian book written specifically for women, but when I read the tagline “A Confident Heart” by Renee Swope, I was instantly interested.  What woman wouldn’t be interested in discovering “How to Stop Doubting Yourself and Live in the Security of God’s promises”?

All my life I have struggled with feeling like I am not good enough.  It has never crossed my mind once to bring these feelings to the Lord.  I have always just felt like there was something wrong with me and I needed to just be better.  Swope’s book, “A Confident Heart” has honestly changed my life.  I now see that the messages of self-doubt and the insecurity that I have felt for most of my life does not come from the Lord, nor does it mean that there is just something wrong with me, but these sore spots in my heart come from Satan who wants to crush my spirit, and has been doing so for quite some time.

“A Confident Heart” is broken into 12 incredibly encouraging chapters that dissect various doubts we may have, remind us of God’s promises, and strengthen us to become not only the women we want to be, but the women God created us to be.   Swope encourages application of her words through bible study and prayer time after each chapter which makes this so much more than a fuzzy read that makes you feel good as you read it and then simply move on from and don’t ever apply.

Swope’s transparencies invite me into a safe place where I feel comfortable letting my guard down and be honest with myself and with God about my self-doubts and insecurities. Her words infuse my heart with the hope and peace that comes from God, as his scripture and promises wash away my fears and replace them with strength and a confident heart.  I recommend this book for every woman; this is definitely a book I will return to, time and time again.

When I was about half-way through the book, I contacted Baker Publishing Group to see if they would send me another copy to giveaway to one of my readers and they graciously agreed.  I hadn’t even finished the book yet and I already knew that I wanted to share it with you!  It’s that good!

Oooh, pick me! :o) I really don’t know how you find so much time to read all these books, but good for you!

  2. Oh, I can definitely relate, Chelsey! I’d love to read this book! “Choosing to SEE” also talked a lot about the burden of perfectionism, which I wasn’t expecting at all when I picked it up. You should really add that one to the top of your stack. = )

This book would mean so much to me because I am struggling with all the things you described. I recognize it to be spiritual attack and need to learn how to give these thoughts and worries over to God. Even if I don’t win (although that would be nice!!) I will go to the Christian Book Store and get a copy for myself, thanks for reading this book and for the great review Chelsey :)
