I have been curious about the Amish way of life since I watched something on Oprah about an Amish family in 2007. I find their simple life and great faith to be so intriguing. When I saw the book “Amish Values for Your Family” by Suzanne Woods Fisher was available to review, I decided to go for it.
“Amish Values for Your Family” is divided into four sections with 9-10 short stories within each section, telling stories and sharing wisdom from various Amish families. Following each story, Woods Fisher shares what she entitles a “Road Map”, a little bridge to help us extract the Amish values such as community, forgiveness, simple living, obedience from the story and infuse them into our own lives.
I found this book to be both encouraging and enlightening. I felt myself longing for a simpler life, and taking many notes on how to involve my children more in our day-to-day lives and daily tasks. I especially appreciated the Amish Proverbs that preceded each short story and wrote many of them down.
Anyone looking to learn more about Amish culture, or ways to slow down, focus more on family life or on your faith, should take a look at “Amish Values for Your Family.”
